The diabetic patient treated from a dental point of view

Diabetes is a risk factor for many diseases, including those concerning the oral district with immunological implications. The percentage of affected world population is estimated at around 5%. In 2030, more than 360 million sick people are expected. Complications of diabetes can be different and spread throughout the body. Among the complications of diabetes mellitus, we recognize diabetic macroangiopathies, with atherosclerosis phenomena; diabetic ulcers, carpal tunnel syndrome, glaucoma, diabetic neuropathies, cataracts, oral or dermatological infections, and parodontopathies. This increased susceptibility to develop infections in different districts, including the oral one, is of enormous dental interest. This makes the patient diabetic, a patient to be treated from a dental point of view.
