Dr. Noura Nasir AlKarbi, Director of the Office of Women in Research, University of Sharjah and Head Scientific Committee, Board Member at Emirates Scholar Center, participated in the 16th Gulf Research Meeting 2026, organised by the Gulf Research Center at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom from 21 to 23 July.
The Gulf Research Meeting is one of the leading annual academic gatherings dedicated to the study of issues related to the Gulf region. Its 2026 edition brings together approximately 380 participants across 12 specialised research workshops, with the aim of promoting scholarly exchange and strengthening research collaboration among academics, experts, and researchers concerned with regional affairs.
Dr. Alkarbi participated in a workshop titled “Humanitarian Diplomacy and Mediation in the Gulf: Pathways to Regional Stability”, During the workshop, she presented a research paper titled "UN Women’s Mechanisms for Supporting Humanitarian Diplomacy in the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries”.
The paper examined the institutional mechanisms adopted by UN Women in the GCC countries, as well as the organisation’s role in building international partnerships and advancing humanitarian diplomacy practices.
It also highlighted the social importance of these mechanisms in supporting women’s issues and expanding their participation in peacebuilding and development. In addition, the paper addressed their contribution to sustainable development and regional and societal stability.
The paper further emphasised the importance of strengthening coordination and integration between international and regional institutions to develop more inclusive and effective humanitarian responses, while reinforcing women’s role as active partners in peacebuilding, humanitarian action, and sustainable development.
This participation forms part of the ongoing efforts of the University of Sharjah and Emirates Scholar Center for Research and Studies to strengthen the UAE’s research presence at regional and international academic forums, expand the participation of Emirati researchers and experts in addressing priority issues, and promote the exchange of knowledge and expertise with leading global academic and research institutions.
These efforts contribute to the development of studies and knowledge-based solutions that serve communities and advance development, peace, and stability at both the regional and international levels.
