Enhancing Culturally-Informed Kindness, Empathy, and Compassion in Mental Health Professionals: Insights from a Rapid Review
Abstract
Kindness, empathy, and compassion are core skills in mental healthcare, underpinning therapeutic relationships, team collaboration, and overall system wellbeing. Yet, their meaning and expression vary across cultures, and interventions to foster these skills are often inconsistently applied or evaluated. Evidence suggests that structured training programs, reflective practice, and culturally-tailored experiential activities can improve prosocial skills, strengthen team cohesion, reduce burnout, and enhance patient satisfaction. This presentation aims to share insights from a rapid review study and add practical recommendations for culturally informed health systems.
