Avian Influenza Transmission and Control Across Live Poultry Trading Networks
Abstract
Multiple zoonotic subtypes of avian influenza viruses (AIV) are endemic in poultry populations in South and Southeast Asia. With most poultry being traded alive, live bird markets play a key role in AIV epidemiology in these regions. I will present how interdisciplinary research combining epidemiological, ethnographic and virological studies can help assessing the influence of poultry trading practices on AIV transmission dynamics, and identifying targets for control measures.
