Abu Dhabi – 16 October 2026
Abu Dhabi University hosted H.E. Dr. Abdulla Belhaif AlNuaimi, Chancellor of Emirates Scholar Center, who delivered a keynote address at the Student Symposium on Climate, Cancer, and Youth Futures. The University organized the symposium through the Abu Dhabi University Cancer Research Institute. Students, researchers, and academics took part both in person and online. The symposium explored the links between climate change, environmental health, cancer, microbiome science, and health innovation, through scientific presentations, research posters, and panel discussions.
The symposium opened with a ceremony in which the organizers welcomed participants and introduced its themes and objectives. Selected students then presented their research in oral presentation sessions, each followed by a discussion with the audience. Students also discussed their research with reviewers and participants at a digital poster showcase. The symposium further featured a dialogue session that brought students together with faculty members to exchange views on climate change, cancer, community awareness, and the future of student research.
H.E. Dr. Abdulla Belhaif AlNuaimi stressed that as the impact of climate change extends to disease patterns, including cancer, academic and research institutions must join forces and adopt an integrated scientific approach. He noted that the UAE’s experience is built on making sustainability a pillar of development and investing in scientific research to turn challenges into opportunities.
At the conclusion of the event, the winning students presented their research again before the audience. They were honored with awards for Best Oral Presentation and Best Scientific Poster, in addition to special recognition awards. The symposium closed with final remarks in which the organizers thanked the participants and called for continued future research initiatives.
