H.E. Dr. Abdulla Belhaif Al Nuaimi, former Minister of Climate Change and Environment and Chancellor of Emirates Scholar Center for Research and Studies, delivered a lecture titled “Sustainability and Social Change in the UAE: From Vision to Transformation" at Zayed University’s Dubai Campus, in the presence of faculty members and university students, on Thursday, 8 October 2026.

The lecture comes amid the growing importance the United Arab Emirates places on sustainability as a fundamental pillar of its development journey, in line with the nation’s vision to build a sustainable future that balances economic growth, environmental protection, and enhanced quality of life for society.

During the lecture, H.E. Dr. Abdulla Belhaif Al Nuaimi reviewed the UAE’s journey in transforming its sustainability vision into tangible policies and initiatives, highlighting the role of social change in embedding a culture of sustainability among individuals and institutions. He also discussed some of the UAE’s leading national experiences in clean energy, climate action, and the protection of natural resources, as well as the role of youth in leading the transition toward a more sustainable future.

His Excellency emphasized that sustainability is a shared responsibility that requires collaboration among government entities, academic institutions, and members of society. He noted that universities serve as essential incubators for preparing knowledgeable and capable generations equipped with the skills needed to drive positive change and contribute to achieving the UAE’s national objectives.

The lecture also featured a discussion with attendees on ways in which academics and students can contribute to sustainability initiatives and how environmental awareness can be translated into sustainable community practices. Participants also explored the role of scientific research and innovation in developing effective solutions to environmental challenges.
