Religious Values and Family Care for Children with Disabilities: A Field Sociological Study
الملخص
This study seeks to examine the relationship between religious values and family involvement in the upbringing of children with disabilities, based on field data collected from a sample of 50 families in the Tata region (southeastern Morocco). The study aims to achieve three main objectives, which constitute its core axes. The first objective is to identify the educational roles assumed by families in the socialization and upbringing of children with disabilities. The second objective focuses on exploring the religious values on which families rely and through which they justify their roles in raising children with disabilities. The third objective seeks to propose recommendations for harnessing religious motivation to enhance the effectiveness of family performance in addressing educational challenges imposed by contemporary social transformations in general, and particularly those related to disability. These objectives reflect the central research problem of the study, which can be formulated as follows: How do religious values influence family upbringing and care for children with disabilities? From this main question stem several subsidiary questions: What are the current roles played by families in the socialization and upbringing of children with disabilities? What challenges do they face in this process? Can religious values be considered an influential motivating factor in the degree of families’ commitment to caring for children with disabilities? In what ways are religious values manifested in the upbringing of these children? And how can these values be utilized in formulating recommendations that guide family educational practices toward greater effectiveness in raising children with disabilities?
