    • adherence to reporting guidelines (e.g., CONSORT, PRISMA, STROBE, EQUATOR).
  3. Relevance and Originality
    • contribution to advancing knowledge in business, economics, or social sciences;
    • novelty of hypotheses, frameworks, or applications.
  4. Clarity and Coherence
    • logical structure, writing quality, and adequacy of references;
    • alignment with EJBESS’s aims and scope.
  5. Ethical Compliance
    • proper treatment of human data, informed consent, and adherence to GDPR and other relevant regulations.

Timelines and Process Transparency

  • Initial Screening: the editorial team checks submissions for scope, formatting, and ethical compliance.
  • Peer Review Phase: Reviewers are expected to provide feedback within 3–5 weeks of assignment.
  • Revision Process: Authors receive consolidated reports with specific, constructive comments and a clear decision: Accept; Minor revision; Major revision; Reject.
  • Appeals: Authors may formally appeal editorial decisions, following the process described in the Complaints & Appeals Policy (Section 18).

Peer Review Process — Steps, Timelines & Acceptance Rate

EJBESS follows a double-blind peer review process to ensure fairness, rigor, and transparency:

  1. Desk screening: the editorial team assesses scope alignment, ethics compliance, anonymization, plagiarism screening, and completeness of the Data Availability Statement.
  2. Double-blind review: at least two independent reviewers with proven expertise in the relevant field evaluate each manuscript.
  3. Additional review: conflicting reviewer recommendations may request a third expert review.
  4. Editorial decision: decisions fall into four categories: Accept / Minor Revision / Major Revision / Reject.
  5. Post-acceptance: accepted manuscripts proceed to copyediting, proofreading, and typesetting before the Version of Record (VoR) is published.

Editorial Responsibilities

  • assigns manuscripts to Reviewers with appropriate expertise;
  • mediates in cases of Reviewers’ disagreement;
  • monitors timelines and enforces review quality;
  • safeguards Reviewers and Author anonymity throughout the process;
  • handles alleged misconduct in line with COPE’s Peer Review Guidelines: https://publicationethics.org/peerreview

Metadata includes:

  • title, abstract, keywords;
  • Authors’ names and ORCID IDs;
  • institutional affiliations;
  • funding information;
  • references and citations.
