Abstract

Research Summary This research examines the role of smart systems in enhancing the continuity of security services and managing crises and operational disruptions in smart airports, with particular emphasis on their impact on reducing the Recovery Time Objective “RTO”. The research is grounded in the premise that the integration of smart systems extends beyond improving routine operational efficiency to becoming a critical enabler of dynamic security resilience during crisis situations. Using a descriptive-analytical approach, the study combines theoretical frameworks related to risk management and business continuity with an applied case study of Dubai International Airport as a high-density smart airport model. The findings demonstrate that the “security – operational” integration of automated screening systems, biometric identification technologies, self-service platforms, and command-and-control centers significantly contributes to reducing response time and RTO while maintaining decision accuracy and the continuity of critical security functions. The study concludes that smart systems represent a strategic pathway for strengthening security resilience in airports, supporting sovereignty requirements, crisis management capabilities, and the sustainability of security operations in highly sensitive environments.
